NADH (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide)
NADH (or NAD) is found in all living cells, where it stimulates the production of
energy-storing molecules. Scientists have been aware of the importance of NADH for a long time, but unfortunately,
oral doses have often been ineffective because the compound is easily destroyed by stomach acids.
NADH is therefore now available in ‘enteric-coated’ tablets designed to pass through the stomach intact and to
deliver the compound to the intestines. In a recent study, NADH (daily, in enteric capsules) increased vigour and
mental alertness in about a third of participants, all of whom suffered from chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). A
control placebo group showed less than 10% reported benefits. The dose used was 5 mg, taken twice a day.
