Boron


Boron is rapidly absorbed in the gut, distributed throughout the body, stored mainly in the bones, spleen and thyroid. Surplus is excreted mainly in the urine. Mildly toxic in excess.

FOOD SOURCES

Green leafy vegetables, nuts, grains, and fruits. Beer, cider, wine.

SUPPLEMENTATION

Not usually necessary, although some mineral supplements may contain borate salts.

SIGNS OF DEFICIENCY

Reduced mental alertness.

SIGNS OF TOXICITY 

Oral doses greater than 100 mg/day may cause: dermatitis, diarrhoea, disturbances in digestion, lethargy, nausea, vomiting.

DAILY MINIMUM REQUIREMENT

Trace only.
